Second Graders Conduct Sweet Experiment to Explore Scientific Method

Students in Mrs. Johnson’s second grade recently experimented to explore the scientific method and discovered what happens when you put different cookies in milk.

First, students made a hypothesis and then were instructed to make observations of different cookies. Next, the students made predictions on whether the cookies would sink or float, then each student tested their cookies.

The conclusion was, “some cookies dissolve. Some cookies sink, and some float.”

This led the students to ask a different question for a new experiment - “why do some cookies sink? Why do some cookies float?”
